creating detritus

what's the fastest way to get about 1cubic foot of peat moss to completely break down into fine decomposed mush ?

so far i'm thinking in water, (no guesses on size of container) airstone & powerhead(s)
adding water & media from an established tank (loaded with bacteria already)

I think you have a good plan but I would add heat to the mixture. High temps make matter decompose faster. If you do so in a 5 gallong bucket, for instance, a heater turned all the way up (hopefully acheiving 88*F+) as well as sitting outdoors or with a heat lamp over it should do the trick. The heater would work on its own but the hotter the faster it'll decompose. Depending on the purpose of this, maybe pond snails as well?
