Both your tanks look absolutely stunning Willow :D

No wonder you're having problems with tannins - that's quite a chunk of wood you have in there, but it looks lovely!

there is more wood in there than just that large bit LOL,
but it's partially hidden by the tall villas.
have looked for my carbon this morning and can't find it
so i'm just not going to do anything today.
(i think for the best)

when you set up a new tank,hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor,that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
