Cleaning acrylic tank and Ehiem filter

I got a used acrylic 46 gallon bowfront and it looks like the guy we bought it from had a moss wall growing, then drained the tank and left it to dry and then ripped the moss off leaving dried algae all over the place. I know vinegar will probably clean it so I'm wondering if a soft blue (new) dish sponge would work (soft side, not scrubby) and/or a magic eraser from mr clean. Those things work wonders and don't need chemicals to work. I'd also be using warm water to wash, cold hose water to rinse.

Also I got a Ehiem 2215 with this tank. Does anyone know how to clean out the motor head? This house was HEAVILY infested with cat hair and we are going to do a super clean on everything.

And it came with a stand (coated in cat hair) and a nice air pump, water pump, current pump and 2 heaters.

can't complain about the condition of everything. It was completely FREE

I seen good reports from those who use a "Magic Eraser" on acrylic tanks. The sponge you mentioned may not be safe. You should do fine with warm water but in case you need a cleaner; the following url will have a list of safe cleaning products.

For a acrylic tank, get the Fusion Scrubbing Pad for Acrylic Aquariums. Should be $1.50-$2 at any pet store.

The one that's SAFE for acrylic is WHITE not blue. Don't get the pad that's attached with the stick. The scrub pad you hold in your hand gives you more control.
  • Make sure sand doesn't get caught in the pad when you're scrubbing.
  • Rinse the pad well with every swipe to prevent scratches.
  • Practice on the side/back of the tank first.

I have absolutely no experience cleaning out the motor for Eheim.

Take before & after photos. You'll appreciate it once you're done.
