I currently have a 20 gallon aquarium with 7 lemon tetra and some italian val. It was a great tank to get started in the hobby, but I am ready to upgrade to a bigger tank. One that will allow me to have more than one species of fish and make a more interesting aquascape. I am going to collect everything for my new set up from now until about mid summer, then I will start setting it up. I wanted to run my checklist by you guys to make sure I am not making any mistakes.

Tank: 40 gallon breeder (36"x18"16")

Stand: DIY wood stand

Filter: Eheim canister filter. Not sure which one to get, any ideas?

Heater: Hydor ETH In-Line heater 200W

Light: Stock fixture with a 24" T5 6500K bulb and 3 blue LED's for moonlight

Substrate: Playsand

Plants: Various plants from South America

Fish: 7 Lemon Tetra (from my 20 gallon), 11 Rummy Nose Tetra, 7 Ember Tetra, and possibly a Whiptale Catfish

Thanks guys. The fixture is 36" long but it only uses a 24" bulb. I talked to Byron about it and he said the 24" bulb will probably work because you want the very minimal amount of light. If it appears that the plants on the side are not doing well, then I'll make the switch to a 36" bulb.
