gravel vac-ing a small, different area of the tank each week is the best method. completely draining a tank to clean is the worst as it kills beneficial bacteria and causes your tank to cycle all over again

+1 for getting a Python. I used to do the syphon and bucket thing when I had my 20 gallon. Bought a Python when I got my 55 gallon and it is so much faster. I can do all three of my tanks in less than an hour.

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty

I actually dip the 1 gallon kool-aid jug into the water .
