Question Can I use Air pump instead of filter? for fishless cycle

I set up another tank (One without plants) I used my filter and its broken i think. Can I use a air pump for the fishless cycle instead? and then evently add filter when i get fish.

An airstone won't hold enough beneficial bacteria to hold a stable cycle. You could use a sponge filter (run by an airstone) but not just the airstone alone.

kk, with a filter should i also use a air pump too? i am planning to get betta fish but i know that they have lungs that they can breath by them self but i got 2 air pump already and i figure out what was wrong with the filter, the sponge was too big which it got caught onto the fan and now its working :)

If you are running a filter then the air is unnecessary.
