Ya really talk about a deal but anyways...thx for the sump in put but i think im just gonna go with the regular filter! I've never done a sump before and i dont want anything to go wrong while im not home!!!!

Cool.

For a 100gal...for the BEST filtration, I'd say go with two MarineLand Canister Filters....unfortunately they are about $150-$180 each... But you did save alot on the tank, so I don't know if that helps deciding whether or not to get these....It's just such a big tank, you really do need some good filtration and water agitation.

My 5foot, 56g Tank
2 Madagascar, 2 Bosemi and 1 Millenium Rainbowfish
9 Tiger Barbs
1 Weater Loach, 6 Zebra Loaches
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Raphael Catfish
My 55g
1 Siamese Algae Eater
11 Otocinclus
4 Burmese Zebra Loaches
1 Black Angelfish
1 Banjo Catfish
Lots of shrimp
My 70g
1 Siamese Algae Eater
4 Peppered Corydora, 1 Green Corydora
2 Wood Shrimp
3 Red Eye Tetra
1 Raphael Catfish

if there isnt anything to break surface tension [like if the water is still still] like bubbles or something doesnt icky gross stuff start to form at the top of the water and look icky?

Your choice in filters should be based upon what fish you intend having in the tank, and if you want plants or not. Example, if you intend keeping larger cichlids, and no plants, you'll want more filtration [=water flow] because larger fish produce more waste. But if the goal is a planted tank with smaller shoaling fish, angels, dwarf cichlids, gouramis, etc., you'll want less filtration/water flow. But having said that, the more fish the more the need for more water flow, but only up to a point. Some fish and all lants can be adversely affected by over-filtration, by which I mean too much current/flow. The filter's efficteveness is somewhat dependent upon the flow rate, and this has an impact on the fish and plants, so decide on these before you decide on the right filter to match.

Yeah. Rainbow Fish are really beautiful and active yet peaceful. Google them.
