Thank you. No CO2. Seachem's Flourish Comprehensive Supplement once weekly in all tanks. Flourish tabs in the substrate next to the larger swords in the 90g and 115g. The substrate in the 70g is Flourite.

Very cool how does the flourite hold up? does it last a few months?. Oh BTW hopefully it doesnt go back up. But i check the water levels today after work and found the PH at 7.8-7.4 not sure color is kinda inbetween . But the bad side is two of the rams are acting kinda funny i think the ph dropped to fast maybe their kinda just hang out almost gasping for air? if that makes since.

Hard to say. I am frankly rather disappointed with this. I am still having to dose fertilizer (liquid) exactly the same as in my sand and gravel substtrate tanks, and I have the same plant species in all of them so it is a good comparison. The plants have not done better with the enriched substrate. Perhaps the pygmy chain sword is a bit stronger (faster sending out runners), but that is it. I could not recomend others spending this much money for little or no benefit over plain sand or gravel.

I should previously have mentioned more about fish in the tank, beyond my one comment to go slow. And I didn't know rams were in the tank. This is a very sensitive fish to any changes in water params or conditions. All you can do is avoid stress to keep them calm, keep the temperature at 82F if this is the common blue ram, 77-78F for the Bolivian Ram. Go slow on the water adjustment. Whatever the pH does now on its own, leave it. Fluctuating pH is far worse over short periods. Increase the aetation (filter flow, airstone, whatever) to improve circulation and add surface disturbance.

Hey well thanks for the info about the flourite i was thinking about using it for my 20g im setting up. they are LFS "blue rams" but they are the bolivian rams. sorry i didnt realize that it would go that fast. i figured i was going at it slow. i shouldnt have done the 40ish% water change.. should i hold off on saturdays water change do you think? as far a water movement um i have a unused internal whisper for a 20g i could throw on it or i have a 225 GPH powerhead?

Not sure on water changes, but if things stabilize and the fish are OK just do small ones at a time, waiting a few days to ensure stability.

If the fish are respirating fast and/or at the surface, anything to increase the oxygen content of the water will help. You don't want a tidal wave battering them, that too is very stressful, but breaking surface tension more (surface disturbance) is the best thing to achieve this. More oxygen enters the water, making respiration easier. Perhaps the powerhead aimed along the surface would do this? That would be better.

On smaller tanks (under 50g) I use a plain sponge filter. My tanks are always planted, so this is sufficient just for gentle water circulation.
