Do you think I can put my established biowheel into nylon stocking and hang it in a new tank while getting a new filter established? I will be using the old gravel as well, but the new tank will be about double the size of the existing tank.
Sure you can. My question would be why the stocking? The wheels just float around in my tank when I am cleaning my filter. It keeps them wet and exposed to the air or you could say it keeps them working. The bacterial colonies on the wheel should help jump start your new filter too.
The stocking will serve as a "net". My biowheels are full of gunk (good gunk) and if I were to drop it into my tank, the tank would be full of gunk. Not sure what else to do so that I don't have to start from the ground up. I'm going to a much larger tank.
