i have a few basic questioins as this is my first tropical setup ever!
1.)can i turn the filter off at night as its in my room?
i will be using live plants if that helps and wouldnt mind having less fish if i have to.
No. If you turn the filter off, the bacteria will quickly die... Basically recycling the tank every morning. Tanks can be set up with live plants as the filtration, but they require good light (even a window), an enriched substrate (I use soil but any of the good ones would likely work), and light to moderate stocking levels... And adding fish extremely slowly helps as well. There's still a margin of error though, and it's risky.
It would be best if you could leave the filter on.
2.)my room is a little dark so do fish need about the same amount of sunlight or led lighting as us humans 12hours?
Yes, about 12 hours of light is fine. May require tweaking if you get a bit of algae though.
3.)when do i need to start warming the water up ready for my fish about a week into the cycle?
I would set up every piece of equipment from day one. (as you know) some fish prefer tropical waters, and some prefer cooler.. Bacteria are the same way.
4.)also regarding the tempature i have seen the fancy read out ones but if there anything wrong with using a temperature strip
Strips are fine in my opinion.
sorry for the big post been doing so much readin up and im full of questions
No problem. Glad to help.
