Bio Spira

Hey guys, I've heard a lot about this Bio Spira stuff, and everyone seems to think it works, but the main problem is that if you buy it online most places don't ship it with ice, or quickly enough that the bacteria survives. Has anyone bought this online and had it shipped to them and it worked as advertised? I don't want to pay $18 and have it die on the road. Thanks guys!

This was developed by Dr. Tim Hovanek, and the original had to be kept regrigerated if memory serve me. It was available from Marineland, but their formula was sold to Tetra a year or so ago, and they now use it to produce their SafeStart. According to information I've read, it is the same product now produced by Tetra. Here's the link to their info page:

Another product that is equally effective is Seachem's Stability. It is also 100% live bacteria, though probably not the same scientific formula. But I have used it and it works.

Have you bought any of the products online? If so where did you go?

Never buy these things online, fortunately one of my local fish stores will usually have what I need, if I do. I used Stability when I set up a new tank a year ago, but with plants this is unnecessary so I doubt I would do it again.

+1 on the Seachem Stability. I only wish I knew about this years ago. I recently used it in all 6 of my 2.5 betta tanks after my house move and they are all perfectly cycled.

And it's readily avaiable at most chain stores.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
