I have tested three type of test kits:

API liquid freshwater
Tetra
Hagen Master

API is the most user friendly, easy to use, easy to read.

Tetra is also user friendly, easy to use, easy to read, but has no test for nitrates

Hagen not for beginners, not that user friendly, but has more tests, that most wont use.

API is what I would recommend.

Work in progress what do you think so far:

I use the api master test kit.
it includes everything youll need to do well over 800 tests, including...Ph, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, high range and low range.
and you can buy the complete kit for as little as £15 on ebay..!!Unused..!!

That 800 number is a little misleading. It's not 800 tests of each test. It's 800 tests total.

It's still a good value and will last a long time since once you cycle a weekly test of the parameters is good it's just not going to last you a couple years.

Lol my API test kit is going for a year strong now. I do cheat though, I sometimes skip my weekly testing of the water It's always good, so as long as I'm keeping up with my water changes and I haven't had any dead fish friends I normally don't bother to test weekly.

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.
