Is it a bad idea?

To start a 125 gallon fish tank and instead of using a canister filter big enough to filter the water, use (2) Whisper Bio Filters Water Fall thingies both capable of handling 80 gallons, maybe one each side of the tank on the rear?

Just curious. That should keep the water moving, but is it sufficient for what the fish would need?

(just a ghost knife and some tetras for now, but I am sure I will put more fish in the tank in due time.)

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with a whisper filter that can handle 90 gallons.

Are you talking about this one?

It's the Whisper 60 and has the dual waterfalls and is rated for aquariums up to 60 gallons.

Do you have one, or two of those. 2 still wouldn't be an adequate filtration set-up, you'd need 3!

Here are a couple of options for decent additional filters...

Emperor 400, for aquariums up to 80 gallons - $45

Aquaclear 110, for aquariums up to 110 gallons - $64

Oh..and on a side note. Personally I like having multiple filters, instead of just one main filter.
