So many things I would have done differently. For one, I would have started out with a 150 gallon and not messed around with multiple smaller tanks. I would have done live plants right away and would not have fallen for the Tiger Barbs sold to me by a pushy sales person at the LFS. Not that I didn't like the Tiger Barbs, I did but she knew what kind of fish I wanted in the tank and the Tiger Barbs didn't mix. I hate seeing fish considered expendable.

Oh and did I mention no plant eating Leporinus?

In my defense... I knew nothing about this hobby... The fish there were all 2 inches or under and i only got one tinfoil barb and two silver dollars. LOL not much of a defense eh? It's ok... The tank wasn't that crwded for that long... In the first night the CK had killed both the oscar and the BGK and within a week i had purchased a 55 gallon off of craigslist. where my CK lived in harmony with anything non aggressive and non electrical till it was 11 inches. Then I had to rehome it. :( I still want one... One day ill have a tank big enough to house an adult.

No self-defense required! I didn't mean to cast a critical spotlight on you with the AqAdvisor thing. I think a lot of us made glaring mistakes when we were first starting, especially in the days before online discussion forums. Your post is exactly the reason I thought this would be an interesting thread! By the way, I think the aquariums in your sig provide plenty of defense for the evolution of your skills and experience!

I think I would not have bought so much toys wen I was young. Then I would have had enough money to by a bigger tank. I got my first tank(8gal)middle last year and I did not know nothing about fish.So a few weeks later I went to the pet shop, wen I got there, there were so many fish I did not now what to do.I told the dude I want 2angels(gouramis)and 5 malawi cichlids. He says to me,those are malawi's and those are gourami's.The malawis are going to eat the other fish, they are meat eaters. OK!. So I got the gold gouramis(not really they were moonlight's)He says to me go online and google them.So my mother tells my how to google. Then I saw people com planing about how aggressive the golds are.I was very mad at the gi ,then I saw that they were moonlight gourasmis and I was so glad the gi was wrong. Now I have got them a 30gal and they are very happy.
