Hi to everyone,

I had my aquariums (10 and 20 gal) last month.... and things are not quite good. 10 gal. is for the small fish like guppies and neon tetras, the 20 gal. are for my redcap oranda and pearlscale.

I had problems with maintaining my 2 aquariums water clear, good for me and my fish, I've already accomplished that.

But lately, some of my fish are not that energetic as my other fish, and after a day or two, I would see it floating and not moving (dead...huhuhu).

I've done the basic things to do, which I've read on the internet like don't overfeed them, replace about 10-15% of the aquariums water, and put anti-chlorine if the water is tap water, stuff like that.

I'm worried and sad to see my fish looking unhealthy and not energetic...=(

Can anyone give me tips or any internet links that I can follow......I would really want to maintain my 2 aquariums....but i'm not sure where to start.

Hi Tintin.

I see you're from Manila. I live in Iloilo myself. Nice to meet you.:) We'll try to help and hopefully you'll be able to solve your problems soon enough.

What size are these fish right now? Pearlscales grow to 5-6 inches max whereas orandas can reach 8 inches. A 20g, to be honest, is too small and can support only two pearlscales. How many times do you change your water and how often do you do that? How about the 10g?

But lately, some of my fish are not that energetic as my other fish, and after a day or two, I would see it floating and not moving (dead...huhuhu).
Which species are not energetic? You may have to test your water parameters: ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. The downside is that these cost more than 200 pesos each but in the end, they are worth using for. A liquid test kit can allow you to test 100+ times and will give you accurate results. If the ammonia and nitrites are not zero, try changing the water by as much as 50%.

For the 10g, I'd like to know your full tank stocklist. I would do thrice a week water change for this tank. Feed the fish only once a day and fast them for a day per week. You could try varying their food diet with freeze-dried tubifex worms, live mosquito larva, frozen or live bloodworms, commercial food products in which Sera happens to be one of the best available, veggies, shrimps and many more. Remember to thaw the frozen stuffs under dechlorinated tapwater before using as the cold temperature may cause body shock permanently damaging or even killing the fish.

For the 20g, the same food diet suggested can be applied. I would also like to know the number of fish of each species in there and their size. What is also the temperature? For this tank, a 20% daily water change shouldn't hurt or try doing it every other day.

Also, answer Willow's questions.

By the way, welcome to Fishforum.com and good luck.
