i looked into them a while ago, here is some of what i remember. They like to hide/dig and prefer to be in groups. They should be kept in a minimum of 3 but prefer 6+. They pretty much need a sand substrate and stay really small.
I have two and they are very shy and like to bury themselves and hide in caves. They usually come out at night I do plan on getting at least 3 more they are so cute. I expect with more they will come out and "graze" the bottom looking for left overs much like cory's do since i see they have 3 pairs of barbels. I build a cave for them with 2 rocks and put it right up front so i can see inside the cave. They like to peak out and say hi every now and again.
Kuhli loaches need to be kept in large groups in order for them to feel comfortable enough to not hide all the time. That is very typical behavior for a small group. I say that 8 is a minimum.
