Anyone had any experience with acrylic hex aquariums?

I need a bigger tank...my fish are getting big, and crowded in my 29 gallon. My biggest problem is that I only have room for the same width of tank in my house. I've been looking at acrylic hex aquariums (55 and 75 gallon, that are the same width just taller. my question is how hard are these to maintain, will my fish be happier, since they cant really swim out further, just up?

Hey Herky,

I have a 45 gal. hex stocked with 19 smallish fish (3 of which are corys and an algae eater). I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the water clean with a Penguin bio-wheel 200. Because the tank is so deep, I'd like to grab a higher powered bio-filter but the problem is the width of the tank sides. The width of each side is 12" and the bio 300 is 16" in width. So, if you do go the hex route, keep in mind that you might have to come up with some creative filtration.

Good luck :)

Thanks for that, filtration was one of the things I was concerned about. Do you think canister filtration would be a better option?

Not sure. I'm looking into that option myself. I'll share any feedback that I get.

Well, I think I've decided to go with a 60 gallon acrylic cube instead now, but good luck with your tank. I hope you get everything worked out.
