There are different tetras that would work, for substrate fish you can do a good size group of corys. What is the tank size that you have the angels in right now? Also with the tetras you will want to read the profiles, some of the tetras tend to be nippy so you will want to find one that is more peaceful.

I recently set up a South American Cichlid Tank which has Angelfish in. Their tank mates include Firemouths, Blue Rams and Congo Tetra and they all get along great and they are a nice size. No fin nipping going on either.

How many angelfish are there? A 35g will work for a small group but you will need a larger tank in the near future, a 4-foot (like a 55g) minimum. If the angels will have to remain in the 35g for any length of time, other fish may not be in their best interest. Angels themselves can get very aggressive depending upon the fish and the environment (tank size and number in the group both play into this). And in the crowded confines of a 35g (crowded as the fish see it), even peaceful tetra can get nippy to angels. Tank size has a major impact on fish behaviour.

With the pleco you will want to take into consideration of the species that you get. Some species only get to be about 5", while others like a common pleco can reach up to 18" and will need to be in something larger than a 40 gallon.
