Well I wanted to use ammonia because I have read that tanks can be cycled in as little as two weeks with this method. The problem is, however, I can't find pure ammonia anywhere! I have checked:
- 2 Walmarts
- 2 Publixs
- Ace Hardware
- Home depot
- Lowes
- CVS
- Walgreens
- 3 different pool stores

Pure ammonia seems to be IMPOSSIBLE to get. Looks like I may be going with the shrimp method. What could I use to put the shrimp in that I might have around the house?

Cut the "foot" off of a pair of nylons (ladies pantyhose), and then use that "foot" portion as the bag to hold the shrimp. Somewhere around the house should be a pair nylons, right??

PS. I can hardly believe not one of those stores sold pure ammonia! I hope you called them all, rather than wasting time driving to each store only to come up empty handed....

Yea about wasting all that gas.... haha :P
But I am going to make 2 more stops tomorrow and see if I can't find it.
But yes I do have some pantyhose (Well not me my mommy :D) that I will use for the shrimp.
Lets keep out fingers crossed for the ammonia though!

O and quick question about the ammonia is Ace Hardware's Janitorial Ammonia usable? I put it back because it didn't list the ingredients but it didn't bubble when I shook it.

My bottle looks like this (see below). It states janitorial strength. From what I can tell, if it has surfactants it will list them. If it says ammonia and water, OR ammonium hydroxide and soft water, it does not contain surfactants. Unless someone knows otherwise??
