Air pump maddness

Im ready to pull my hair out! I bought a Tetra Whisper 40 pump and a Topfin 48' flexible wand; it worked great. I decided I wanted to add a volcano with a airstone, so with my logic I returned the 40 for the next size up (60). The 60 put out no where near the same amount of bubbles through the air wand, keep in mind I haven't hooked the airstone up yet. So I returned the Tetra 60 for a totally different pump a Rena air pump. This one was worse yet! I've come to the conclusion to taking the Rena back and shopping else were beside PetSmart. Has anyone had a problem like this?? Could it be the air wand itself? I left it unhooked for approx. 24 hours, could that hurt it?

Let me know when you figure it out. I have a tetra 40 on my 60 gallon tank( I recently upgraded tanks from a 30 gallon) and enjoy how quiet it is. It has also been running for 8 months problem free. I needed more air output before I upgraded but now I am in more of a serious need. The only thing I can add to this discussion so far is I have read reviews on the tetra 60 and 100 only to see that they break down easily within months. Anything above the 40 in the tetra series looks to be unreliable.I am to scared to get another air pump only to have it make that annoying noise and keep me up at night or break down. Im surprised that Rena is no good since I read reviews that said it was good. Im keeping this discussion bookmarked hoping there is a solution.

I bought the Rena Model 200, it was the loudest of all. The Tetra 40 I first had worked great, it was quite and powerfull enough for the air wand (still debating if I should of bought an air stone, just for more bubbles). The Tetra 60 was quite a bit louder then the 40 with noticable air flow difference. I emailed the company, they said the 40 should put out 1.6 liters per minute, the the 60 putting out 2.6 liters per minute. Theres no way it was even coming close, even with the two lines connected into one. According to the Renas box it should of put out around 2.4 liters per minute, no way in H#% it did, haha. I'm thinking about going to my local FS and purchasing both the Tetra 40 and 60 in order to do a side by side comparssion, eventullay taking the lesser back.
