Air pump comperison-problems

Hi all
I have a 36 gallon bow front tank. I recently placed a 48'' flexable bubble wand along the back of the tank (Still not sure I shouldn't of went with an airstone) it was powered by a Tetra Whisper 40 gallon air pump. It seemed to work ok but future plans with hold a volcano with a 3'' air stone in it, so I upsized to the 60 gallon pump. However it doesn't seem to be nearly as powerful and its significantly louder. I have the two ports connect by a T supplying only the air tube. Is the pump defective or is it the way its supposed to act?

I like bubbles too, but I have never owned an air pump that is quiet enough for my taste. In my experience, bubbles = noise and there is just no way around it. I don't know about your particular pumps, but I have owned a dozen and all of them were too noisy to suit me. I chose silence over bubbles in the end.

BTW... It has been my experience that air pumps differ wildly in performance, even between 2 of the same make and model. Unless you spend big $ on something special, like maybe a Luft, it is a crap shoot whether you get a good one or not. And even the expensive ones I have seen are still noisey.

It might be defective I would call tetra and see if they would send me a free pump repair kit.
