wow im confused. ive read that they grow 3-4 inches. even 12X3 is 36. im using a 29 gallon tank. are kuhli an exception to the inch per gallon rule. if you guys are for sure about this i would love to get that many of them. also when after removing the 2 rosies before i add loaches how many do you think i could add w/out going into another cycle?

The 'inch per gallon rule' Isn't really a rule, it does give you a general outline, like not adding 100 inches of fish in a ten gallon tank. But it depends on the bio load of the fish. I would probably only go for 6 loaches, but if Okie says its cool then its cool. I would only get 6 just because then I know for sure I have room for more fish.

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.

yeah thats what i was thinking too. plus adding 12 at one time would probably send me back into a crazy cycle id think. and if i do find out i can add more then my boy chris at the pet shop wont hesitate to order me some and if i go in on thurs. he can have them there by tuesday :)

so another thing. i have a granule fish food i feed most of the time. and i have lots of frozen blood worms i give as treats.(edit only feed these every few days, didnt want you to think im just tossing in cubes of blood worms every few hours lol) what other foods should i look into getting. i was thinking of those brine shrimp pellets that sink i would think theyd make a mess but now ill have like 6 little sand vacuum cleaners :).

also with the sand conversion should i be looking into getting a mystery snail or will my loaches do a good enough job along with me stirring it a little with a fork to make sure they didnt miss any spots?

ive read a lot on here and other sites before deciding on these guys but there seems to be some discrepancy on temp. some say up to 78 some say 78 to 82. what do you guys keep yours at? mine stays within a degree either way of 79 throughout the entire day/night.

Lol Your boiiiii. Sorry that made me laugh so much

You should definitely look into sinking pellets for your loaches. I don't know, you could probably find pellets just for loaches.

Its not mystery snails that stir the sand its Malaysian Trumpet snails that tunnel through and keep your sand good. Theres no harm in getting them. You will hardly see them because they will be in your sand all the time.

My tanks are a steady 78 all year round

And just before you laid dead weight upon its shores, I stung you in the face for that's the nature of my core.

Kuhli loaches get 3-4", but they're really thin fish so they have a relatively small bioload. I don't know if I'd add all 12 at once. Do it in two batches instead.

Lupin's the real loach expert here, so I'd defer to him on it. Kuhli's bioloads can't really be calculated according to inches, as they are so skinny. Plus, they aren't very messy fish, a great cleanup crew. I agree that adding them in two groups would probably be better, but once the tanks established, it certainly won't be overstocked.

hehe yeah it was funny when i typed it but hes one of those guys that i go there just to see if hes working and when he is i end up talking to him for like an hour. he used to breed lots of different fish including discus. so he is really knowledgeable and also really nice.

if i can get away with keeping 10 or 12 kuhlis i really would like too as long as i can still add a few other fish.

so what other fish mid/upper level do you think would go well with swordtails and kuhli loaches?

got my loaches today and i couldnt be happier. they are all around 2 inches and have cute little barbels :). ive had them acclimated for like an hour now and im already in love with them. so far not one of them have even ventured into the small gravel portion of the tank but i expected that. these guys are using every single little cave/nook/drift wood in my tank. i have some pictures but quality isnt great because my only camera is in my phone :(.
