Now I want more, bigger tanks. Is there a hotline I can call for aquarium addiction? :p

lol noooo

I would love to go all out but I live at my parents right now - graduated from university this past december and have been trying to get hired as a teacher. Can't afford to move out just yet, and I plant to get a down payment together to buy a house after getting hired rather than renting somewhere. So I can't right now.

But when I can...

When I have my house...

FISH TANK COFFEE TABLE.

Yep. I started with one. I now have three. Welcome to the madness.

Also, reaching out to fellow fish folk for help is not a good idea - we will help you, but it will be helping you to justify adding another tank, helping you find a great deal, helping you find room in your house for another tank, helping you choose more fish..........you get the idea.

Just wait till you get your first big tank ;-)

I can stop whenever I want to. I just don't want to. I don't have a problem;-)
Oh and MTS is an infectious condition. I kinda feel guilty. My neighbors son was playing with my son alot...Then they got a 40g. Then after I got my Cichlid's tank and they saw it...well their screwed..now the have a 125 that they bought 3days ago lol

But Jaysee... Big also will keep getting redefined haha. first you're all oooh a 75 then you look at it and think well thats small...then 125 then well let me get an "ACTUAL" big tank like 300 or 600..I will probably live in a tank by age 90

That is so true. I used to think our 75s were "big" tanks - then I made the leap into a 125 and when I first brought it home I just sat and stared at it and thought, "It's just so big! What was I thinking?" - now I find myself looking at the big tank thinking, "Two more feet isn't *that* long"

Well I just got an interview scheduled for a school and district I am REALLY excited for on Monday so hopefully I will have a teaching career launched for Fall 2013 and be able to start looking at buying a home! :) THEN I CAN HAS MOAR TANKZ! Its an academy for gifted/talented students and students with circumstances needing alternative schedules and online high school classes. :) I -MAY- be able to justify a small saltwater reef tank in the classroom... you know, for life drawing... yes... sea life drawing... with a puffer fish...
Good luck!!

MTS is not an addiction. More like a passive, sometimes agressive compulsive disorder. Fortunately although there is no known cure, there are no associated negative health effects and as long as there is room, most families survive it.
We do not currently have a program (12 step or otherwise) and politely suggest that we are probably not the best support group as many here are similarly affected and many are in near denial.

On the up side, there are many things in life much, much worse...so count yer blessings!

LOL

LOL my office here in San Diego has been infected with MTS evidently.

We started with a 10 gallon with a guppy and two platys. After an initial incubation phase for the MTS to set in, and 29 platy babies magically appearing, the community has blossomed into three 10 gallons, a 29 gallon, a 55 gallon (just launched - 6 tiger barbs, 2 africans, a rainbow shark and 2 crabs) and...get ready...a coffee table tank.

You guys are right - there is no cure.

In my opinion, if you get close to saltwater, that is even MORE addicting

Be warned! I work at a school too, and could never find the time to take care of a tank at school, however. Too crazy busy, and with breaks, and all, I'm not sure a saltwater tank is a good idea. Just saying ;-)

Tap water is usually a no-no for saltwater.

There is a cure for MTS! Its called a lack of funds!!!!! But then relapsing is very common as when some is available, home improvements, clothing and bills go out the window and its yet ANOTHER new tank coming thru the door!!

I started with a large corner aquarium i saved from a house clearance, it was going to be thriwn into a skip
The came 2 4ft tanks on one stand, complete set ups i got for half the asking price
Then came yet another tank, still sat empty but nearly all the equiptment is sta around and got the stand for it now
Then i sold the corner tank
Bought a 3ft tank and stand
Bought a little 20g
Sold both of them
Setting up a previously mentioned tank and then will be selling the 2 4fts

Benn forced into promising family members that i will stop buying tanks when iv got this last one set up but i know and you all know that there will be one day when you look at one of your tanks you think one of 2 things

"Its not big enough anymore"

"I think the room looks empty over there, il get another one to balance it out"

Im glad my fingers were crossed when i promised

I had my first aquarium dream last night, it was that my friend wanted me to help her start a saltwater tank and when I got there she was using two big rubbermaid containers for tanks and there were freshwater fish in the saltwater and salt in the freshwater and I was pulling my hair out trying to fix it.
