Exclamation 5-gal aquarium- give me some suggestions of what to do with it!

My grandfather kept aquariums, 20 and 50 gal- and I helped him maintain them when I was a child. I've always wanted to get back into the hobby, and now someone has given me one of those 5-gallon Aqueon sets as a gift. It's a used tank, so no return is possible.

Due to its size, however- I don't know what to do with it. The pump cycles the water in a current far too fast for a betta, and 5 gallons is way too small for any of the tropical fish that come to my mind, even the smaller ones.

Unless there are some fish types I've overlooked?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the suggestions. :) I'll have a lot of time to think things over now that I have it planted and cycling.

I've got a 6 gl that is heavily planted stuffed with red cherry shrimp and I'm having lots of fun with it.
Looks pretty cute, too.

I think you can keep a single pea puffer in a 5 gal. I've always found those kind of cool.

Ditch the filter, either a mini HOB or a Hagen elite mini. Below is my 5 gal aqueon also a second hand tank. Turned into a paludarium. Hood was modified to hold 2 x 13 watt spiral compacts. Was really easy, because the tank already had a dual socket it was just positioned to originally hold 1 bulb. Mine hold about 1 gal of water, 2 or 3 cherry shrimp. Occasionally a few young male endlers. There is a young toad in it as well. Unheated and unfiltered. There is a filter, but its never on.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk
