45 gallon tank
So I transferred my fish to their new home today. I was going to wait another week or two until I could buy some proper sized fake plants for a tank of this size. But I am not known for being patient. I placed three of the fake plants from the ten gallon into the 45, creating a little hiding spot for them. I've never transferred fish from what tank to another before so here's what I did: I got a 1 gallon bucket, filled half of it with water from the 45 and half of it with water from the 10 and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I netted the fish and put them in the bucket for about 20 minutes to let them get over the shock of being netted and to let them get used to the newer water.
I gently scooped them out one at a time with my hand (I hate netting fish and doing it this way seems to cause them less stress), and gently placed them in the 45 gallon. They immediately swam down to the fake plants, which was what I had expected. Two of them started exploring their new home within a couple of minutes, but these are the two newest additions. My Sunburst Platy, Isis, has been living in the 10 gallon for about a year now and she hasn't left the "safety" of the plants just yet, but I'm sure it won't be long before she starts to explore with her tank mates. I'll post pictures soon.
