My tap is pH 6.8 and KH1 now between the 5 tanks running now I have para's ranging from pH 7-7.6 and KH 3-5 thou they're all set up the same way...so there's no telling what this one may be like once its set up; plus I could always like have crushed coral mixed into the substrate or something like that as needed.

I really like Lemon Cichlid but I had then in mind being smaller and reading online now it say's they'll become 4" which wouldn't be very idea with wanting to house a group of them

Keyholes can get to five inches and is why I think a pair would work as opposed to a group. I think the Keyholes will endear themselves once you have kept them. I am considering getting a small group myself for I truly enjoyed them. When I finally traded them to local fish store for credit in order to try something else,, they (5) sat in the stores tank for approx three months before they were purchased. It got to the point that I couldn't hardly enter the store cause it tugged at my heartstings to see them lookin at me like...what did we do to piss you off. I normally don't get too attached to different species I have kept ,but I got them at around two inches, and cared for them for nearly a year. (I digress)
I am near certain you will find someting to suit your fancy . I'm just sorta partial to this particular cichlid.

There I am again - Torn....

Just like with the water now for my new arrivals (RCS and Killi) I'd wanna offer the perfect home and I'm just kinda so-and-so with Cichlids in a 30g maybe with my Yellow's I just really had a hyper active group but I just am not sure if cichlids vs 30g is a suitable idea for the fish.....Thou the Keyholes and Kribs on the bottom does sound like a nice set up - But there again does "nice" equal perfect!?

For fish we got:
- Kribs
- Cory
- Leopard ctenopoma
- Keyhole Cichlids

Plants:
Lotus

Any more suggestions please?

PS 1077 you think with the Keyhole- Krib mix I could still use hard plants (et them establish first then add fish)? I had used Hygos pretty successfully in my Yellow Lab's tank so I'd hope with them it'll work too?

Would be more worried bout the kribs with regards to plants. The krib I had was quite large and spent a considerable amount of time rooting around in the substrate.
I had tiger Lotus,Amazon sword,Hygro, and Wysteria (sp) and Keyholes seldom bothered the plants.
More I think abou it ,,perhaps Keyholes would get a bit large for thirty gal.
Might look at something like Pseudomugil Furcatus perhaps.Maybe Thread fin Rainbows,or Pseudomugil Signifier(austrailian Blue- eye)? I often see these fish on Aquabid or perhaps one of the online fish stores might carry them.

The ctenopoma will get to be about 6" but they aren't really active swimmers so I think a single one should be ok in a tank of that size. Down the road I plan on keeping one in a 29g, possibly with some tankmates but maybe by itself.

HEY what about a dwarf puffer set up in the 30g? As far as I read they don't need brackish set up and I could go planted as well; provided of cause I start a snail farm in the 3g tank

Well, you've been talking about puffers for a while now. 30g would be a really nice set up for them. I say, YES!!!! As long as the more experienced people here agree that a 30g would work. They're just sooo darn cute.

If anything like cichlids or Kris I'd plant that tank 1) Only with various larger Echinodorus due tot he root system they dev 2) Have the plants in there for several many weeks before adding fish so they'll root down.

Eyyyy re-reading the Pseudomugil Signifier if a VERY nice idea too *go reading up on them now*

Ya'll wanna laugh? I broke down the current diff choices to hubby and know what he said "I donno I like the Albion Tigers from the 55g, can we not have those out here in the 30g and then you go buy whatever else for the 55 to restock" Wasn't that a TOTALLY helpful answer when the option were as previously listed above?

30gal tall

Hi There, I'm new to the forum, but not fish - had them since before I remember. My angels and I enjoyed the 45 gal tall & 65 gal tall hexagonal for alot of years. ( A 30 gal will just limit your fish numbers as they grow) I finally gave the 45 gal to a friend who did well with fancy goldfish (pretty, but too boring for me after cichlids). I changed them around over the years, but generally had alot of tetras including petticoat (black) and emperor tetras. The glass cats were pretty with the angels and I had an upside down catfish that was fun in the tall (or any for that matter). You could also use it as an amazing baby/juvenile tank. I'm hoping to find another tall hex tank this summer for angels again.Have fun with yours.
