i'm sorry i haven't had a chance to do the math myself i've had other life issuses but if you give me the dimesins of both i can throw out some numbers on stocking pretty easily along with an exact types of fish you plan on keeping so i cam work out the math

I'm not familiar with a 38 gallon tank, but if you're looking at a 37 as opposed to a 29, the 37 will let you keep fish that need more vertical space, for instance angelfish or festivums.

Hey Fordman,

Ok the dimensions of the 29 are 30x12x18 and the 40 is 36x18x16. (I also just noticed there is a 50 breeder that is 36x12x19 which I suppose could work too if it were to make a huge difference). So again, I would like to have at least a couple different types of schooling fish, and then at least one or two larger more noticeable fish. I was thinking of putting black gravel, driftwood, and plants, so if you have some ideas of fish that would look good with the black let me know. But some of the fish I like are the zebra danios, gouramis, tiger barbs, tetras, and then the harlequins I already have. If you could come up with some stocking options with some of those fish, or others you might think of that would look good with the black, please let me know what i can do with those in the 29 or in the 40. Thanks!
