you shouldn't have Nitrate levels of 20-30 on the first day of a new tank, with no fish, and tons of plants. where is your ammonia coming from?

your readings look like they came from an already cycled tank.

Not sure on the ammonia as I used seachem prime on my water. It could be from some water that got transfered while I was seeding the tank. Nitrates, also could be from water. Will test later. Forgot to mention I put in 6 neon tetras. Will post an updated log soon.

Day 2 5/25/11
Ammonia: .25 ppm, >.25 ppm*
Nitrite: 0 ppm, >.25 ppm*
Nitrate: 20-30 ppm, 10-20 ppm*
pH: 7.4, 7.8*
Temp: 76, 77*
Notes: Did daily dose of sea chem stability, 8 mL.

The results with the asterisks were done later the day, at 7:40 PM, where the first results were done in the morning, at 9:30 AM. Interesting to see the nitrite go up, the ammonia and nitrate go down, and the pH go up. Wonder why the pH would jump up .4; did nothing to the water, and I am actually letting a piece of driftwood leak its tannins out. pH COULD possibly be at 7.6, but it was a shade darker than the blue on the card. Will see how things go.

Here's another one guys.

Day 3 5/27/11
Ammonia: .25 ppm, 0 ppm
Nitrite: .50 ppm, .25 ppm
Nitrate: 10-20 ppm, 20-30 ppm
pH: 7.8,7.8
Temp: 76, 76
Notes: First value was measure in the morning, before the daily dose of seachem stability. After values were taken, dosed 8 mL of seachem stability. Second value was done at night, at 12:20 AM. Also moved fish from old tank ( 3 panda corydoras, 3 three line cory, 4 sterbai corydoras) into the new tank. Added another piece of drift wood from old tank which had java moss, 1 java fern, and 1 anubias plant anchored via fishing line.

Your tap can have nitrates, some people get 20+ ppm of nitrates straight from tap.

Oh my tap supposedly has 45 nitrates to begin with! :D But it did do a minor jump from day 2 to the end of day 3.

Just a quick update; the dates are wrong. Cycling of the tank started on the 24th of May, not 25th. My bad.
