20gal, well water, stocking help

Guys I'm driving myself in circles trying to figure out what to stock my new 20gal with! I want it to be a breeding tank, I do know that.

I have hard water with high pH and around 30ppm nitrates.

For this reason I usually keep African Cichlids. American Cichlids are probably out of the question.

But a 20 gal is very small even for Mbunas. If I can find shell dwellers for sale I may do that. I already breed the hell out of guppies.

What would other suggestions be for fish that would work with this tank size and water conditions?

Thanks so much all!

Furcata or gertrudae blue eyes are really nice. There are a few others but those two come to mind first. Also Celebes rainbows are another option.
However you'd need to get the nitrates down for these little fishies.
