lol, i don't know, i think i save a little
buy using ebay, but i think i will keep all my
receipts this year and count it all up at the end.
i'll let you know then. :)

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Last time Mrs. Hat decided to "speak" with me about it, it was in the neighborhood of $5K for 8 tanks running and 4 on deck. I have no desire to be any more precise than that.

Net time I take up a hobby, it'll be something cheaper, like eating gold bullion.

Still, my ottos are fat, my loaches are playful, and my tetras just poke along happily, so I'd say it was worth it.

Logic is only the beginning of wisdom

Spent $40 for 30 gallon tank, heater, filter, stand (now that is a good deal)! However, the ten gallon and 40 gallon hex weren't so reasonable..neither were the fish..oh well..

on my 180 litre i think i am at £1200-£1500 roughly speaking- if i did it again i know i could do it at a quarter of the price, you need to know where to shop and understand which brands offer more than just a name.

Agreed. Even if a new tank setup is 'only going to cost $200.00' it always ends up being more. Tank, stand, lighting, filters, gravel, plants, water conditioners, nets, syphon hoses, food, meds, etc etc, oh, and fish! I am sure I spend $1,000.00 on my 46 gallon bowfront so far (at least).

You know what the definition of hobby is: something of interest that is going to cost you lots of money!
