2 Danio dead

ok. I am new to this and am having some trouble. I have 40 gallon tank. Stocked with (now 5) danio and 3 SAE. Today I had one of the Danios die. Before he died he started swimming upside down and sideways. I did a 4 gallon water change today so am not sure if that is coincidental or not. Now last week, I had a danio die in the same manner. What is going on? the Ammonia and Nitrite tests are good. Also all the other fish are acting normally. It seemed to happen very sudden just as with the previous danio. Thoughts please. Thanks

hi.
i know this will be a little boring probably..........however
1.could you be so kind as to list the water stats.
2.how long is the tank up and running.
3. is it cycled.
4.do you de-chlorinate the water before or after it goes back
into your tank.
sorry for the list. :)

Tank has been running 4 weeks. I cycled it for 4 weeks prior to adding fish. Ammonia and Nitrates are good. I added the dechlorinate to the water before I put it into the tank. Thanks

How high are your ammonia and nitrites? What about your nitrates? Don't confuse nitrites and nitrates. Nitrates is the final product of cycling converted from nitrites.

Ammonia and nitrites are good if they are zero. If they're not zero, then they're not good. That may be what you meant, but that's why people keep asking. Nitrates are fairly important too.

If they get over 40, you can have trouble.

Forgive me if this is too obvious, but where did you get and how did you treat the water for your tank. If it's tap water and you didn't treat with something to get rid of chloramines, that could be your problem.
