how many shrimp is a good number to start out with?
Are you using fertilizers?
Those help though some arent shrimp safe so look into it beforehand!

I started off with 10 snowball shrimp and they seem to be doing ok. With my cherries, I just kept buying more so I think I ended up with around 40 to begin with X)

Hey jrury, If you are still lookin for a filter. Redsea makes a micro HOB filter for aquariums less than 10 gallons. I think it cost me around 15-20 bucks for it online.

Also that light should be okay. You can even purchase daylight spectrum CFLs for it
