35 gallons should be ok. Just do research before buying fish. Fish can be tempting and it's not easy to resist buying them on impulse and then realizing this fish will cause future problems.

isn't buying from specific pet stores also not so great? because some kid went to petco and bought a fish, not knowing it was diseased. The diseased fish killed all 27 of his fish, and poisened his water.

Not poisoned but killed by the disease. As long as you know how to distinguish the healthyfish from a sick one, there shouldn't be any problems.

does a diseased fish look like a dull faded color instead of a bright color?

Usually it does. Look for hollow stomach, clamped fins, sunken eyes and sluggish movements.

I'd say that the biggest petstore no-no is Wal Mart. Otherwise other petstores are usually ok. But Wal Mart is, as you know, committed to cheap prices and that shows in the way they take care of their tanks; half the time they are totally diseased.

I don't think Costco has fish. If you want to chance Wal Mart, go ahead. You might get a good deal. I personally wouldn't get fish there just because the tanks at ours aren't well-cared for. However, that doesn't mean that every other store isn't ok.

You kind of have to experiment. For example, if fish from a certain store consistantly die or infect your tank, you may want to switch stores for a while. Also, check over the tanks carefully at stores, and if you see even 1 fish that looks like it could be sick, don't get a fish from that tank, or any other connected tanks. Naturally you might get a bad fish once in a while. That's to be expected since fish aren't the hardiest of creatures. But you just kind of have to be observant and play it by ear. ;)

That's cool.

The reason why they "glow" is because they are injected with jellyfish DNA or something...
