120g Stocking Idea? Help!

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, and am looking for a bit of advice :-D. Currently, I have a 55G tank stocked with 8 juvenile Super Red Severums (Under 1" big, don't panic), and 5 Syndontis petricolas (Also under 1"). My plan is to get all of my fish as young as I can and raise them together. When the Severums start to get bigger, I'll be picking two that I wish to keep (Male/female pair) and putting them and the petricolas into a 125G tank. Here's my additional stocking plan for the 125G

2 Super Red Severums
10 Syndontis Petricolas
5 Turquoise Rainbows
5 Lake Tebera Rainbows
8 Denisons Barbs
Optional - Some species of pleco

Would a stocking setup like this work? The only real aggression in the tank that I can see would be the denisons, but I dont think they would attempt anything towards a rainbow or severum hah. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

PS - My LFS has a 1/2 off sale on fish livestock this month, and has both rainbows I'd like at 1" big, so I'd be adding those into the 55G tank soon and letting them grow with the severums until they get a bit bigger.

It's a stocking list that will most certainly work, though I am not sure about the catfish (don't know anything about them). Your plan to get a severum pair is a good one. Denison barbs are not aggressive fish so I would not be concerned about them.

I think you've got room for some more fish, but what you've got now is a start. You could add some other cichlids too, if you like.

Awesome! As far as I can tell with keeping them (and reading online) the catfish are quite innocent little things. Tend to just sweep around the tank and mind their own business. I'm looking to keep the severums as the 'centerpiece' of the tank, is there something perhaps a bit smaller than denisons that would work alright? Maybe another schooling fish, or a group of rams, maybe even an apisto pair? It's going to be awhile until I have to upgrade tanks, at least a few months for them to get to 3"-4", but I'm just having fun playing with ideas. Haha.

Maybe some Giant Danios. If I were to add another schooler I'd probably go with a group of Tiger Barbs. What are some other kinds of cichlids I could possibly throw in? A pair of Bolivian Rams? Maybe a pair of some Blue Rams (People say they're hard to keep, but I've kept 3 pairs successfully breeding in a 55g), are there some cool gems I'm missing or haven't heard of? :D

My severums couldn't care less about the bolivian rams. I think they are just so much smaller that they don't even make it on their radar. There are a number of smaller cichlids that would do well. Severums are pretty laid back, so I would get fish that are the same way. You could keep a group of firemouths, or keyholes, or festivums.

I've decided to not add any more Syndontis Petricola, just keep the original 5 I have right now, and add in a shoal of clown loaches. I've heard so many good things about them, but have never been able to try them due to the size tank they require. On the 19th I'm going to go in and get the rainbows, clowns and denisons (All juvenile), and see where I'm at for awhile. I'd rather under-stock a tank than overstock one. Thanks for all of the help!
