To start off, I've been noticing that my ten gallon tank has been cloudy for about a week now, which is really odd because normally it is the most pristine tank I have. It has always had crystal clear water, been absolutely sparkling with the exception of some brown algae as it cycled, which has since gone away. I guess I didn't put to much thought to it, figured I had overfed and I missed my regular tank cleaning day by a couple of days since I started back to college again this week and have been super busy. As I'm doing the water change on our tanks, I noticed the sound was off....the normal cacophony of the waterfall effect coming from the filters just didn't have the same ring to it. The culprit: my 10 gallon. Filter not working at all. I unplugged it, took it out, stripped it down, cleaned it up, reassembled and put it back in place, plugged it in....nothing. Tried a different outlet thinking maybe it was the power strip (even though everything else plugged into it worked). It's dead as a doornail. The problem is, I have no money coming in until September 10th.
I know I have a couple of options: (at least I think)
1. Keep the tank, try to do as many water changes as necessary and hope it works.
2. Take the fish back to my lfs tomorrow and abandon the tank until I have the cash flow to get something done with it.
I don't know if they can make it long enough doing water changes or not...any ideas? I've been wanting to scale back since we have a major case of mts going on here, so maybe this is the opportunity.
