10 gallon stocking

I have a 10 gallon set up with some plants and running for a few months that currently contains 5 goldfish in it.(they will be gone very soon). My daughter is absolutly fascinated with a betta fish and I was wondering what are some options on companions with it. I don't test the water but I do know we have very hard water around San Antonio.

With a a bata fish you want something with shorter fins and that are quicker and this. Dose also depend on the Kind of beta as well I find that betas with shorter less wavy fins are more aggressive

But some things to look at would be platys with have much colors. And there
Any options but that depends if you want a heated tank of so most short fin tropical non aggressive community fish will work

Very hard water is going to limit your choices a bit as most of the fish stocked with bettas in a 10 gal are soft water fish.

I perfer to keep betta in species only tanks, but others have had success with keeping them with other fish. The best tank mates for a betta are bottom-dwelling fish like corydoras and kuhli loaches. However, those fish will suffer in your hard water as they need soft water. Before you think about trying to soften the water, there is another possibility. You could divide the tank (dividers are sold at many local pet stores) and place a betta on each side. If you wanted a cleanup crew you could go with Malaysian trumpet snails (MTS or burrowing snails) and red cherry shrimp.

ETA: There is no "if" for a heated tank. Betta are tropical fish that need temperatures between 76F and 82F.
