my local petco does this a couple of times a year, usually at the beginning of a new season to close out old tanks and bring in new ones. I dont know if its nationwide, might only be select stores that get a certain amount of traffic or ones that stock excess tanks.

Speaking of I noted that petco had a manufactures coupon sale on the 20 gallon and 29 gallon agueon kits. They stocked up for those. This one small petco was near empty of tank kits and they now have 10+ of the 20 gallon kits.

I'm trying to talk myself into another 29 gallon kit, but I'd rather get a 55 and build it up for a few months. So hence my interest in this sale.

I always try and get a bigger tank so I can divide it making 2 tanks in 1, although space is always a huge factor ! I have no more space .... although if I got rid of a sofa ..... ha ha

IF you mean the entire set (tank, filter, heater, etc). I don't recall. I know I saw the sign that said 40% of select items good until 4/23/2011. The sale sign was under the 29, 20, and I believe a 10. I didn't look at the 5 gallon, but those are typically on sale more often the the 10/20/29.
