Your experience with ebay plants from asia?

There seems to be some great deals on plants on ebay, but they are located far away in Malaysia and Thailand. I'm located in the U.S.

Has anyone had experience with plant purchases that comes from overseas? Do the plants arrive safely even after days in complete darkness?

I want to get a moss ball and the cheapest at the local fish shop is 14.99, and on ebay it is 8.99

I personally don't feel the need to support a overseas company when I can buy my plants in the US of A.....

I have zero experience buying on e-bay. I don't trust it and I won't buy there. On the plant thing. Those plants would grown in who knows what, packed, shipped all the way over here, then delivered to you. There are places in the U.S. that do a great job with plants. I'd not order direct from over seas at all.

I've bought them before. Thats how I go my subwassertang. For the common stuff you can usually find it cheaper over here. Most of those plants will make it, but they don't really go through customs legally....

Well, I think it would probably be cheaper and easier in the long run to buy it from the fish store. I think shipping over seas would be very expensive especially if you need it in the next few days (so it doesn't die).

But my experiences with ebay have all been positive. I think I bought one or two things from there. Not plants, but still. lol.

I checked out sweetaquatics. They have moss balls for $3!

shipping is $10 is not too bad if I buy a lot of plants!

Any suggestions on which plant to make a "carpet"? I want to make a carpet of grassy plants in the foreground that grows slowly (so I don't have to keep trimming so often!)

most will survive the 9-11day trip, if not most come with live arrival guarantee. I've had no issue buying from aquatic magic, both plants and glassware. They have nice mosses, they are better suited for paludariums I think, but they are still nice.
