I don't know what level of light you are equipped to deliver so I will mention that crypts and apogeneton bulbs (betta bulbs) have been pretty tolerant for me. I recommend that you sprout the apogenetons in a separate container to make sure the bulbs are viable before placing them in a tank containing fish. The bad ones rot in the most foul-smelling way which I am sure is an indication of harmful gases being produced as they decompose.
I am also successful with Hornwort, Anubias, Java Fern and Java Moss in low light situations. I usually recommend that people who want plants, but who aren't willing to add CO2, iron-rich substrate and higher than normal lighting, find one species they can grow-- and then grow a ton of it!
