water lillies???

i bought a package of bulbs from walmart and it says they are water lillys. im not an expert on plants but i have two big plants growing from them now and they look completely different. i know walmart is not the best place to be purchasing fish tank products but it was only 2 dollars for 6 bulbs... ill try and get pictures up, but i really have no clue what type of plants i have growing in my tank. one has wider leaves on thin stems and the other is very thin and tall. does anybody know if theres different kinds of water lilly and i might have two different species of the same plant??

They could all be lillies, there are so many different kinds and they rarely get "good" bulbs that will grow the same. They should look closer to each other soon or later and the lillies will start to reach the syrface and open up

They definitely sound like the species of Nymphaea genus to me.:) Any pictures?

my local asdas(uk arm of walmart) is selling these too as well as allot of other pond plants beware of water lilies some can grow to monumental size

A friend and I both picked a pack of these up the other day while we were at walmart just waisting time. I threw them in my tank stand when I got home and about a week ago I just tossed them into my tank, two days later they were already sprouting. I went ahead and buried them under the gravel with the sprout side sticking out and then are still growing like "weeds". I have only had them in there less than a week and already they have a couple inches of growth on them. I think out of the six that were in the package, four of them have green stuff coming out of them.

the three that are growing from the new pack are already to the surface and are huge. the other two that started in my ten gal. are much shorter but have grown outwards. ive takin all my fake plants out now. the lillies are growing very fast and are taking up a lot of room. my small algea eater loves to suck on them and for the bulbs that havent grown the algea eaters and the crab are doing a wonderful job of eating them. thanx for all the imput.

I experienced the same thing with the Hybrid Aponogeton Bulbs and they have been replanted into my 29g.
2-3 days ago I started some of these "Dwarf Lily" bulbs in my 10g tank that had sprouted(in 3days) in a makeshift terrarium under high wattage lighting. In the last 2 days they have grown 3 inches from the sprout length!!!
I'll probably be moving these over to the 29g soon too 8)
This growth is with No Co2 injection or Fertilizers...just 2-10w CF lights in the tank hood

I bought a (6) Dwarf water lillies from PetSolutions.com and all are now in full bloom in four different tanks. It did take me a little while to get the lighting right. Thre lillies are in an aquatic frog/toad/newt/turtle tank with about (10) killies. The tank is a 60g breeder and has a ton of light, (4) different lamps providing the lighting, plus a moon cycle light for the frogs.

They look like dwarf water lillies. Just like their larger cousins, only in minature. I wish I had a camera that would do my photo subjects justice, but I don't. Spending too much money on fish. lol The blooms on mine are white. Really a neat little plant. Lighting is critical, I found out.
