I'm in the process of setting my 92G corner bow, and am using turface for the substrate, planning on fairly heavy plantings. My LFS told me not to rinse it first and be very careful filling the tank, which I was, but now it seems like every time I try to adjust anything it clouds up. No fish in it yet, I've had the turface in for about 5 days. Was this good advice not to rinse it? Will the problem persist?

are plants in yet? there are those who rinse substrate to the point that a substantial amount of nutrients might be lost. It is my belief that once you set plants the less you mess with them the better. You could consider capping substrate with very fine gravel. Too large would lend itself to compaction of the substrate but a fine gravel could help by keeping fish from stirring things up. Course that depends on fish you keep. it,s not to late to rinse it . :D

No plants in it yet, maybe I'll get them in and get the mess overwith and let it settle......also I don't want to gum up the filter with all the "dust"....is it best to let it settle without filtration?? (Marineland C-360)

I can only speak as to what I would do. I would use filter to keep stuff from settling on leaves and decorations.

I also filter out the finer particulates. If one doesn't they rear their ugly head at water change time and cloud the tank.

yeah, for me, use a filter..it would clear up the water easily. although you need to clean the filter from time to time..
