Time for more plants! Any suggestions?

Yeah I think some java moss or anubias nana would be cool. I have one anubias congensis on the right side, wedged into a crack in the wood. I'm not sure where to attach another one, I tried with fishing line but it looked kinda corny. I'm impatient for roots to grow!

How rapidly does java moss grow? I have a small amount that came over with another plant that is just sort of free floating now, but I have contemplated getting it stuck on the wood.

I also have something that looks a lot like lemna triscula, a free floating plant native to MN, but I'm assuming it's a different species. It doesn't have roots, and just floats around like a tumbleweed. I hope it grows as well!

In my dim shrimp farms: added about 1/4 cup java moss last Nov now I"m safely past something like 2cups...so depending on how you measure...I"d say QUICK

That's what I have in all tanks (thou I never added it) and it REALLY grows like weed; I just scooped out a BIG net full from the 55g today so my plants below would have a standing chance to receive ANY light it'll built lil roots (very fineeeee one's hanging in the water, maybe like 1.5" long)

Nope it's not that one, that's duckweed but it's also in the Lemna family (Lemna minor). It's actually the smallest flowering plant in the world! The one I have doesn't have any roots at all and looks quite like Lemna triscula. Here's a stock photo of what that looks like, next time I'm digging around in my aquarium I'll find it and take a picture :)

EDIT: It's also spelled Lemna trisulca, but for some reason at work we always spell it differently. The common name is star duckweed

That's quite attractive. I've never seen this species in stores, must keep a lookout for it. I'd like to see it "live". According to Rataj & Horeman and Hiscock--and few know aquarium plants better than these three botanists--the correct name is Lemna trisulca. Perhaps you could educate your store folks.

Well actually I do aquatic plant surveys on lakes in my area for my job so that's where I always see it. I just have to laugh at myself since apparently I have been spelling it wrong on reports for months now and haven't noticed! Here's a few pics of it in and out of my tank, sorry for the bad pictures I haven't figured out how to take good tank pics yet! I don't think the plant I have here is L. trisulca, but it does look quite similar.

In these photos it resembles strands of kelp. Do I get the impression it is an invasive plant in the local rivers/lakes? B.

I can only send a big YES..... I was miss-leaded by the name earlier on and thought of the FINE duckweed....until I saw the pic...I somehow had gotten that stuff in one my tanks once (I assumed I carried it in not knowing on another plant) and that stuff TOOK OVER that made duckweed seem harmless. While it initally looked 'pretty' to me it just grew & covered everything so fast that even the weekly 'scoop out' like I'd do with duckweed wouldn't control it well any more and I eventually seriously cleaned my tank off of any & all lil specs of that stuff and tossed it for the birds

Nope, if it's L. trisulca its native to here :) It hasn't grown much yet but I'll definitely keep an eye on it if it took over your tank Angel!
