So the difference is T8 is a little more intense then the T12 but they are more energy efficient. Until I can find some T8 in that would T12 be okay for plant growth? | Hard to say. And I have the exact same issue. My 24-inch Life-Glo tube over the 29g was wearing out, so I looked around and finally got the T12 in the GE Daylight. I can barely see inside the tank. But, I'm leaving this for a time to see if the plants fall apart or not; after several weeks, they don't look very good, so it doesn't look promising.
My former tube on this tank was a T8 Life-Glo. I can't find any locally, so I decided to experiment with the GE. The Life-Glo are in T8 now, but they produce more light intensity to begin with, much more, because they are made to. The ZooMed UltraSun is very similar [I can't get these locally at all].
