Question about Java Moss...

Hi guys I purchased a group of plants on ebay today that comes with a group of Java Moss and I am thinking about putting it on the piece of driftwood pictured below. What I want to know is if I attached say in the middle of the driftwood would it just grow up or would it also grow down the piece of wood?

it will grow every wich way...sometimes making a tight vine like grip on the wood or rock....you can just trim it to your likeing...

Good point I kind of just want it to stay on the drift wood and not get into the gravel.

Easiest to do is take the driftwood out of the tank, rap the Java Moss at the spot you want it and tie it down with some sowing thread. Over time the string will dissolve itself and the Java Moss attaches itself to the driftwood and grow out.

That said I have a piece DW about 14-16" tall where i temporarily tried to store some access Java Moss a few weeks back, by now the entire DW is covered green, you'd not know any longer there's actually a very nice piece of wood under the green. So depending on the quality of water & nutrition you offer your plants you may have to trim it every so often to keep a certain desired shape.

Personally, instead of tying the whole mass of fern, I like to tear the moss into 5 or 6 small pieces and tie them in different spots...

That's just me though. :)

Oh thats a good idea maybe I will try that and put a couple pieces in different spots.
