Plants came with Snails!

They're tough little buggers to shoot, that's for sure. At any rate, my colony of MTS is very new and I just started seeing these juveniles pop up about a week ago. I'm thinking that if yours are indeed MTS and not pond snails, they should look an awful lot like this:



Since it closely matches the color of my substrate, I figured I'd isolate it against a black background. See how much fun you can have editing photos?

Thanks for the pics (and pic tips).

Comparing what i have to the pictures I've seen thus far, I'm beginning to think I have baby pond snails and not MTS. Not quite able to get a picture of them yet, but they appear to be rounder and not as long and pointy as I think an MTS should be. . .

I wonder if they might all be ramshorns. I'm not an expert on any of these snails, but I would think that you'd have seen some larger specimens by now.

Nope, there's definitely some that aren't ramshorns. . .

I watched 3 of them today (the non-ramshorns) as they trekked across the tank. Between the glass and the abyss that is my Java Moss (about 10"). I noticed none of them made any attempt to burrow into the sand. From what I've read of MTS, that's something they do, no? So, my guess is that I have pond snails and ramshorns.

Correct, although a lot of the very small MTS I have seem to have eschewed their substrate-burrowing instincts and do trek around as you've described. However, their trumpet shaped shells are especially conspicuous when they're out in the open. Sounds like we're leaning toward Pond snails. Any pics of these yet?

I'm pretty sure there's one I could snap a pic of. . . just need to catch it near the front of the tank so I can focus on it!
