Cool. I use co2 to lower my pH as well. I ended up using this site's directions: http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html
It's a lot to read, but it's actually extremely well researched. It's got more of an aseptic method which avoids a lot of issues people don't think about. I definitely recommend it.
Also, you may want to mess around the with recipe and see if you can't make it produce slightly less co2. I believe the same amount of sugar and less yeast it the way to do that. I've got this system set up in my 10G and it bubbles every 30 seconds. I almost worry that it's too much co2. In a 2.5 gallon you want to avoid crashes, as they are more likely to happen. I'll calculate the actual dissolved co2 in my tank right now and post it, so you can get an idea of what may happen in yours.
Edit: Just calculated my co2 and it's 15 ppm which is just about perfect for a planted tank. Concentrations over 25 ppm can be dangerous to the fish.
