New Plants Arrived

Last Friday I ordered five new plants to add to my aquarium and they just arrived today. I got them from Planted Aquariums Central.

I ordered:

1x Bocopa Carolina
1x Cryptocoryne undulata
1x Red Tiger Lotus
1x Brazilian Pennywort
1x Giant Marimo Ball

As you can see from the pictures I have a lot of plants haha, looks like the stem plants I got double of which is a nice bonus.

I'm worried about the Red Tiger Lotus, I thought it should have a bulb? Or at some point does it no longer need it? There wasn't one rolling loose around in the box.

Guess this will be a good excuse to get a 10g tank for my wife to have her Beta she wants so much... and for spillover of my extra plants =)

Oh, forgot my other question ... will I need to acclimate them before putting them in the tank? If so, how?

Congrats! "Trial and Error" just got a whole lot greener! Those look like beautiful specimens.

Best practices would recommend that you QT them if possible, but I don't think there's much you can do to acclimate them beyond that. When I've added new plants, I've simply rinsed them in a bucket of dechlorinated tap water (probably not much effect here other than making me feel as if I've done something to prevent transfer of bad things from LFS to my tank) then placed them in. Send pics once they're in!

Red Tiger Lotus do not need bulbs if it is the one I'm thinking of because I'm pretty sure it's the one I have in my tank. They merely have root systems. However their leaves get algae pretty easily.

That's good to hear that it does not need the bulb part!

I know that they start as a bulb, at least that's how I've seen it for sale most places is just a sprouted bulb.

I'm not too worried about algae, I don't have bright lights and it will be shaded by the pennywort which will be floating.

Nice! What a difference that made! I especially love the contrast of the pennywort floating over the lotus. In the left corner, is that the same Wisteria from the sparse stems in the first pic? If so, that has really taken off lately! Once again, great work, man.

ps How's the heater? Still running rogue and pushing the temp to 82 no matter what?

Yep, it's the same Wisteria. I was shocked at how many roots there was hiding under the substrate! Four of the six are doing well, with two of those doing very well. Two have hardly done anything, but are still alive so I've left them be. The left side gets a little extra light via the sun in the late afternoon, perhaps that will help the two stragglers that were on the right side previously.

I ordered a new heater, should be here Friday ;) I've got the tank down to 80 ... but still higher than I'd like by 2 degrees. Plus it isn't very consistent.

I can't wait for the swords to double in height to fill up. I'm hoping the Brazilian Pennywort will embolden the Serpae Tetras into venturing into the top half of the tank. Previously, they stayed near the bottom.
