Do you do regular water changes? Should do at least 25% a week. I do 50% a week or a little more.

API liquid regeant test kit. Aquarium pharmaceuticals I think. It has tests for nitrates, nitrites, phopshates, ammonia and others depending on which kit. Any test kit will work just make sure that you get a liquid regeant test kit, more accurate and cheaper in the long run.

It is very important to test for nitrates and phosphates for plants.

The extra lighting will help then.

The calculator makes it really simple to dose what is needed. I would dose potassium, magnesium and calcium regardless because it would be almost impossible to overdose them using the recommended dosing from the calculator.

oh and sorry i just saw your reply right now, didnt realise there was a second page lol. i will get that test kit then. and ill hold the extra T5's until i have tested my water and got your opinion on it. Thanks! =) i also do weekly quarter water changes. and use stress coat to condition the new tap water.

also which test kit do i need? i cant buy all they are rather very expensive lol. atleast we know for a fact i have phosphate dificiency since the green spot thing. but what do you think of the supplement i already have?

It could work fine for now, I have never used it but know some that do and have some descent results with it. Double the dosing like the LFS recommended.

I would also replace that old bulb as soon as you can. The spectrum could be causing a lot of the algae problems even though the other bulb is in good shape and newer.

i replaced that old light bulb. it is definitly brighter and whole tank colour at night has changed. its more whiter of a light. obvious difference. i cleaned all the green spots off the glass , did water change today 30% approx and put in a bit of that fertiliser thing. and also the usual flourish to try get rid of the black beard. hope this has a good effect along with the light.

i just noticed my dwarf sag is flowering. i mean getting a plant to flower in the greatest of times i s difficult. but out of all the plants i have that are tall. and at this state of my tank with the algae going crazy,.,....my sag flowering? strange.... oh man i can clean the green spot algae, but the black beard son of.... =(

Just be diligent with the Excel and spot treating. It will go away in time. I killed over 100 patches of it in my tank in 2 weeks doing the spot treatments as well as string and some other algae.
