Need help

Hey guys I have a 10g tank that I'm debating on what to do with it. ( some may know due to other thread I posted ) I was told that I should come here for one of my questions.

I was thinking about doing a planted tank, but have no idea how to operate one, what all is needed..etc

So I was wondering if you guys/girls can tell me on what all would be needed and all for a 10g tank.

If you get a good substrate and lights, there's not much else required. What plants are you looking at? Some require more light than others as some are easier for beginners than others. I started off not knowing anything except get a good substrate and did fine.

Not to sure on what plants I'm looking at.. I will be going to my LFS this weekend and will be checking out some plants and will be able to tell you then. Whats a good substrate? and what are good lights to get for them?

It all depends on the plants. Another way to choose is to tell us if oyu want to simply watch them grow slowly or if you want to turbo charge then and have to trim them 2-3 times a week. Red colors and more stubborn plants will take a lot to get that kind of growth. Simple ones not so much.

Get an idea of what plants you want and we can go form there or give us an idea of what you want from the plants. Most important, ask questions and ask lots of them. :D

Oh and the best subsrate by far is Eco Complete. I have not used it personally but have never heard a bad word about it.

Is there a thread here that post pics of the plants and names? That will be easier for me to tell what plants I would like to have then..

Hi EWC88,
I justed recently started a 10 gallon planted tank. If you want to start out easy go with low light plants. Java Fern, Anubias Nana, Crypts and Anacharis are what I have in my 10 gallon. You won't need CO2 injection or special lighting. You could always upgrade later if you decide to.

jeaninel do you have any pics of your tank? Also if I wanted to do CO2 later on could I use a Paintball CO2 tank? I have one left over when I use to play..

A 5 lb. CO2 tank is really about the size you want. It will last about 6 months to a year. That and you really can't attatch all the other things needed when you pressurized to a paintball tank.

Ok so atleast a 5lb if I go with that
