Mystery of Creeping CHarlie....

i made a thread about a mysterious plant that i was sold to from my LFS known by the seller as "creeping charlie." NObody knew what it was however and i have yet to find hardly anything on this plant... but however i just made a break through not too long ago.
I trimmed the plant down (because it grows so fast) and notivecd that it has a very very nice minty smell. Tasted minty too ;). Anyway i searched more on this minty smelling plant and found a latin name...Micromeria Brownei.

ive also found soemthbing called Minty creeping charlie...again, does anyone know anything about this plant or how to care of it? i heard a rumor that you can eat it ;)

I can only refer you to online information, here's a link to Florida Aquatic Nurseries, and they say it is a true aquatic aquarium plant.

I would be very careful about eating any aquarium plants. I know nothing about this plant, but some plants have highly toxic juices. It's like picking wild mushrooms, if you kow exactly what you are picking, fine, but there are highly poisonous mushrooms that in appearance to me are identical to edible ones, and I wouldn't risk it.

it smells really nice too! t=it has a very nice green color under soft white lights

Ooh, that is pretty. Nice round leaves. Would look nice stir-fried and throw it on some rice jk Blaxican.

It's amazing how many aquatic plants there are that are suitable for our tanks that we never see in the LFS. My LFS always has the same plant inventory.

Me too Stephanie. It's a bummer. I'm gonig to order from Sweet Aquatics soon. They have a very nice selection, get rave reviews on this forum, and have great customer service

I am a little skeptical that the creeping charlie is true aquatic. From what I have found it is classified as a perennial which is used to describe terrestrial plants. Another cool plant with the minty smell is the hygrophyla corymbosa. It is used as an addition for tea by the natives. I will get some creeping charlie and put it to the test. Stay away from emersed stems of hygro Balsamica it is fatal to fish.
